Engineer Review, Sign & Seal

P.Eng review for plans that require an engineer’s seal. Coordinated by BPB, so you don’t source the engineer.

Some traffic control plans require a review and seal from a licensed professional engineer (P.Eng) before the permit office will accept them. This is required for Category 3 plans in most municipalities, and for Category 2 and 3 plans in Burnaby and Vancouver, where the engineer-seal requirement is particularly strict.

When engineer review is required, BPB coordinates it as part of the process. The plan is prepared, reviewed by the P.Eng, and sealed before submission. You don’t need to source your own engineer or manage that relationship separately.

Engineer review is quoted per project based on plan complexity, the municipality, and the reviewing engineer’s current availability. The cost and added timeline are confirmed at the quote stage, before any work begins.

WHEN IT’S REQUIRED

–   Category 3 plans (most municipalities)
–   Category 2 and 3 in Burnaby
–   Category 2 and 3 in Vancouver
–   Category 2 arterials in some municipalities
–   Per reviewer discretion on complex Cat 2

What the Engineer Review Covers

Technical adequacy

The P.Eng confirms the plan meets the technical standard for the site: correct buffer distances, signing layout, and lane configuration for the speed zone and lane count.

Professional seal and signature

The engineer applies their seal and signature, taking professional responsibility for the plan’s adequacy. This is a legal requirement in Burnaby and Vancouver for Category 2+.

Municipality-specific requirements

The engineer confirms the plan meets any additional requirements from the issuing municipality beyond the BC TMM 2020.

Coordination with permit timeline

We sequence engineer review so the sealed plan is ready for your permit submission window. Exact timing is confirmed at the quote stage.
